According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on an upgrade that will give users more discretion over how much compression is applied to images and videos received over the service.
The Android app presently has two features in development: “Auto,” “Best quality,” and “Data saver.” Changing a file’s extension to send it as a document rather than an image or video is now the only way to escape WhatsApp’s compression.
Users will be able to compel material to be more compressed or lessen the level of compression once this update is released, ensuring that photographs and videos are transferred in the finest possible quality.
However, the exact date of the two features’ formal release has yet to be announced.
